Gender-based violence (GBV) is a real problem facing our country. As days go by, it worsens.
During lockdown, GBV cases have increased rapidly. The government GBV and femicide command centre recorded more than 120,000 victims in the first three weeks of lockdown.
In Tshwane, by mid-April, the call centre received 500 to 1000 calls a day relating to GBV. There was a 65% increase in calls received at Vodacom’s support call centres, from women and children seeking help during lockdown.
At 3 Kings Media Group, we decided to take a stand and create awareness through one of the mediums we are good at. We created a video that shows the pain and suffering that women face daily due to GBV and how we as a country should help stand up against GBV.
